Varanam Aayiram Album art

After all those monotonous and not so interesting albums, Harris Jairaj comes up with the most anticipated soundtrack – Varanam Aayiram which reunites Harris-Gowtham combination. What else would you want it to be, it was just a matter of few repeated playbacks and what next? this album catches on you like a forest fire. This one’s got the power to woo the audience. Guitars, percussions and those traditional instruments which make mass songs classier – all this glitter is packed up in this artistic piece of box.

The soundtrack starts with Adiyae Kolluthey sung by Krish, Benny Dayal and Shruthi Hassan (Kamal Hassan’s daughter). This one starts with bass guitar and falls in the same Harris trademarked category right from the time where vocals take the charge. The same old singing style and might make a very bad impression on you since you were already expecting something big from Harris. Shruthi Hassan spices up the song with her sensuous voice at places. Neat combinations with instruments save this song. This one’s surely a treat for Harris fans as well as Surya fans but seasonal listeners might skip this as this sounds similar to his earlier works.

Next comes, Nenjukkul Peidhidum , a soft number sung by Hariharan, Devan and V. Prasanna. Soft guitar texture slowly progresses and there comes Hariharan – with perfect rendition and maintains the graph of the song. Simple guitar usage and slow paced drum beats with a hint of soft chorus compliments the real asset of this song – vocals.

Oops, the starting of this song – Yethi Yethi looks quite similar to Sivaji’s Oru Koodai song. But don’t worry just the beginning sounds the same, the rest is quite different and really different than what Harris offered us earlier. Very lively song and creates a very joyous mood around. Beware; this might actually make you dance in the middle. This one’s got some nice blend of rap in the song. You can actually experience the complete musical difference between African Tribal music to South Indian Folklore.

Krishnan comes up with his introduction here. Mundhinam starts off with a dialogue and the character is actually confessing his love, Naresh Iyer renders this one along with Prashanthini. This one’s again a very romantic yet fun filled song. A sure shot winner for love birds and this might grow on more with lovers. Not much experiments with the background texture by Harris Jairaj, kept it plain and simple and that’s what makes a romantic number even more appealing. I can’t stop myself from complimenting the guitarist of this soundtrack. He once again did a wonderful job here. Maybe it’s my liking towards the instrument or the top-notch usage which is making me feel quite excited about it.

Oh! Shanthi Shanthi starts with a very contemporary touch to it. Clinton starts off this very efficiently and S. P. B. Charan takes the lead with his deep voice. Few seconds later comes Oh! Shanthi Shanthi Oh Shanthi which keeps you mesmerized with its enchanting vibe. Overall this is a very grand song with good vocals and good arrangement by Harris.

After all these songs, mass audience might be disappointed by the total output of the soundtrack till now. Don’t worry folks! Ava Enna will satisfy your ear buds. This song is sung by Karthik and V. Prasanna. What else can I say about this song? A very likeable song for all the mass listeners and many regular listeners may also find this one interesting.

Annul Maelae sung by Sudha Raghunathan is another slow paced song in this package. This song is quite flat with a retro-ish feel to it. It may not appeal to many sections of audience but those who like old songs may like this.

Ok folks this comes to an end to our review of the much anticipated soundtrack. To sum up, this soundtrack has got the potential to create a rage among music lovers. And what makes this stand out from the rest? It’s the commendable work by the crew on art works (on the CD labels) and the processing of the audio (Thumbs up for Sony BMG). Varanam Aayiram embarks upon a new journey for Harris Jairaj who tries to invade new locations in the musical kingdom. Let’s wish him all the best for this journey and wish to see more of such innovative creations from his side.
